Youtube Changes - Video Presentation (COM 613)

In the aspect of content itself, I had originally used this topic as a discussion board post, but fell pretty hard for it and wanted to learn more about what made the messaging “miss the mark.” In diving deeper into past Youtube changes, and the state of the company itself in the eyes of Google and the media industry, it’s no wonder that Youtube seems to be walking on eggshells with their creators. With competitors like Vimeo and on-demand platforms, like Netflix, Twitch, and Alpha going after their top creators, Youtube definitely has some stiff competition when it comes to the future of the platform. However, the same could be said when Vine and Instagram premiered, and look where we are now: Youtube is still on top when it comes to shareable content.

I have to admit: this project technically gave me more problems than usual. In originally challenging myself to make a higher quality video, I was faced with the problem of uploading the content. In attempting to upload a finished copy, I was met with a front-end issue for Youtube and I had to re-film the video without my camera (thank goodness for webcams) since I had my original, un-edited footage on my work hard-drive. That also meant that I would have to re-edit it through my After Effects. I’m still learning what potential After Effects has and unfortunately I still had a long way to go outside of this project. Through it all, I was able to work on some of my post-filming techniques as well as develop some minor editing skills when it came to sound that helped me recover my presentation. However, I still have a ways to go in talking comfortably on camera and not looking at my talking points as often. I seem to use these as a crutch even if I know what I’m talking about so that will be a priority going forward.

As for going forward, I want to use my resources better and plan accordingly. I didn’t take into consideration the export size so that’ll be a priority going forward. That’ll also help with the overall presentation as well by incorporating integrated graphics and a better look and feel for the presentation. I know personally, it’s so much easier to pay attention when the content is presented in an inviting way and I want to get better at that. Also, obviously keeping raw footage on hand in case of emergency on a personal hard-drive as well. Also, I want to try new ways of capturing the presentation, potentially standing up since I know that’s usually how I present/pitch in person. I have the equipment, I just need to learn how to use it effectively.
